Southampton request Mike Dean and Lee Mason do not officiate games
Can't see that happening. We'd end up running out of refs. It's another sign of managers, increasing exasperation at the standard of the officiating..

OS

West Ham United have submitted notice to The Football Association to appeal the red card Tomáš Souček was shown in Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Fulham.

The Czech midfielder was sent-off in added time at the end of the second half after coming into contact with Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrović.

Referee Mike Dean was asked to look at the incident on the pitchside monitor by VAR official Lee Mason and decreed that the No28’s actions constituted violent conduct.

The appeal against Souček’s red card will now be reviewed by an independent regulatory commission at the Football Association.

I suspect the pressure to introduce VAR was 100% media led/driven and actually had the square root of fuck-all to do with improving the game or applications of it's rules - it simply exists to create more conversation points around which the media can hang more advertising.

They were probably totally aware of the additional corruption possibilities it would introduce, but that was not their problem, so any suspicion of that aspect was swiftly dampened down to nothing.

Can't see them.doing anything along suspension or demotion lines but not having them officiate together is a must i'd have thought.

Re: Southampton request Mike Dean and Lee Mason do not officiate games
I get that Refs will make mistakes and that you can't put officials under pressure that makes them fear for their jobs but VAR was introduced to assist Refs to reduce the number of key mistakes around goals, sending offs and off the ball incidents. What we now have is two refs with the assistance of video from different angles that are making decisions which are not even borderline correct.

There has to be a punishment, suspension of duties, demotion for a number of matches, retraining on the rules for both of them. Whatever it takes.
Not some bullshit message that one is taking a break due to 'death threats' . What a load of nonsense.

We are talking a league which has vast sums of money resting on results for the positions in the tables aside from the incredible amounts bet on the matches and incidents in them.
We seem to have found by using VAR officials are better placed to manipulate matches more - ignore dives, punish bizarre handballs, ignore fouls that and obvious fouls that don't fit the agenda, call offsides for players armpit hair being too long.

Convince me this isn't all bent as fuck.

Every fucking time......"I'm Rebecca Lowe". Yes, we know.

Talking of annoying, while I appreciate the opportunity to watch every PL game, it is staggeringly frustrating not to be able to find a game without having to search through multiple channels.

Dean and Mason should be suspended to the equivalent of a red card.
Three weeks and a warning to their future conduct.
What if the incident had been in the 22nd minute and not the 92nd we would probably have lost the match so where is the justice in that?

It wouldn't be a massive shock would it, IF they ever discovered any proof of it being the case....

VH, I cannot stand that smug, self-important woman. They are all as bad as each other. NBC had a great thing going and they have managed to completely fuck it up. Hopefully they will lose the rights next go round.

Chris Foy said 'He (Dean) has made 2 pot hole decisions this seasons but he's reffed 20 PL games so it's not a bad return' He then went on to say he shouldn't be punished. Absolute wanker, fucking boys club.

Lost all credibility.........bet they'd like that segment back for a do-over.

Did he bint Lowe throw them under the bus? She did put both of them on the spot.

Side,

quite a theory, considering the damage to personal reputations.....although you could argue neither Dean nor Mason have a reputation to protect.

A theory being discussed that it's deliberate Virginia........refs trying to get VAR stopped......

It was right, which is all that matters.

Didn't slag Dean and Mason off though, so points deducted for that.

Those two have managed to reduce VAR to an even bigger laughing stock than it was, which takes some doing.

Add the completely useless Tim Howard and Danny Higginbotham to that list (on NBC). Embarrassing that these people get paid for their 'expert' opinions

"Apparently had death threats to him and his family and has asked not to officiate in this upcoming weekends round of Premier League matches"

That's handy to know. How long before a game do we find out who's officiating it?

I said that if Dean and Mason caught covid I'd stand on my doorstep and clap, does that constitute a death threat?

Re: Southampton request Mike Dean and Lee Mason do not officiate games
I will add I don’t obviously condone abuse of any kind on social media or any other platform by these pathetic cowards but this is announced at the very same moment as they announce the red card for Soucek is rescinded I find far to convenient

Norflundon 2:01 Mon Feb 8
Re: Southampton request Mike Dean and Lee Mason do not officiate games
If a manager was this bad at his job he’d get fired....not sure why a ref who consistently makes decisions this bad should be any different. IMO anybody who watched that on a TV and concluded it was deliberate has no place working as a ref at any level let alone the elite level

FruityBoots. 1:59 Mon Feb 8
Re: Southampton request Mike Dean and Lee Mason do not officiate games
And here comes the FA spin, jumping on the social media abuse bandwagon. Apparently had death threats to him and his family and has asked not to officiate in this upcoming weekends round of Premier League matches. So no mention of death threats after the Southampton game? No but West Ham’s naughty fans obviously are nasty pieces of work, this could be a convenient way to remove Dean from the Premier League list after so many high profile fuck ups in the time he’s been a referee (responsible for 7% of all red cards in Premier League history) move him on with the blame on anyone but himself with a big thank you probably an nice touch of a golden handshake etc.
